Increases in fees in the QLD courts and reporting bureau

Attention is drawn to the increase in fees, including setting down fees for trials pursuant to the Uniform Civil Procedure (Fees) and Other Legislation Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 2011, which will commence on 1 September 2011.

James Henry SC appointed to the Cairns Supreme Court

Deputy Premier and Attorney-General Paul Lucas today announced the appointment of a new Far Northern Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Mr Lucas said Mr James Henry, SC, would replace Justice Stanley Jones upon his retirement in September, as the Far Northern Judge based at Cairns.

“Welcome to our June 2010 edition of the Public law report – our second edition as part of the Norton Rose Group. This edition brings you many useful and informative articles to help you stay abreast of legal and policy developments that are relevant to government. In this edition, we consider the latest reforms to the Commonwealth freedom of information landscape, the establishment of a new federal court under Chapter III of the Constitution – the Military Court of Australia, and what employers should be aware of in relation to new forms of social media such as social networking platforms and their impact on employment policies.
